EV charger quote checklist

Print this and ask every electrician the same questions so the quotes are comparable.

About the electrician

☐ Are you licensed and insured where I live? Can I see proof?
☐ Are you in my utility's installer network (if my rebate requires one)?
☐ Will you pull the permit and be there for the inspection?

About my panel

☐ Did you do a load calculation? Can I get it in writing?
☐ What circuit size are you proposing, and why?
☐ If you say I need a panel or service upgrade: what are the alternatives (smaller circuit, load management)? What does each cost?
☐ Does the utility need to do anything on its side, and who arranges it?

About the quote

☐ Itemized: labor, wire/conduit, breaker, outlet or hardwire, permit, patching.
☐ Is the charger itself included? Which model? Is it eligible for my rebate (some require ENERGY STAR or a "smart" charger)?
☐ Wire run length and route used in the price.
☐ Warranty on workmanship, and timeline.
☐ Does the quote subtract any credit or rebate? Which one, and is it still open? (The federal home charger credit ended for property placed in service after June 30, 2026 — IRS, checked Oct 21, 2026.)

Rebate rules to check before install

☐ Must the rebate be applied for before or after install?
☐ Required rate plan, and for how long?
☐ Funding still open this year?
